APC knocks Prof Etok Ekanem, says he is a ‘fair weather politician’

Prof. Etok Ekanem

A socio-political organization and the All Progressives Congress Youth Wing in Itu Local Government area “APC Youth Movement” has described the former Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Prof Etok Ekanem as a “fair weather politician”, whose stock in trade is to wine and dine with politicians when his interest is protected.

In an advertorial signed by the President of the group Edidiong Ekanem and the General Secretary Victor Ituen indicated that the recent verbal attack by the former commissioner is ploy to force himself into the All Progressives Congress, APC, which the group said would resist irrespective of the Prof Ekanem’s antics.

The duo recalled that when the Ekanem was the commissioner, he never brought development into the area but was rather engaging in ventures only beneficial to him.

According to the group, “We have watched with dismay the recent development in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in which those who did not labour for the victory of the party both at the national and state are gradually assuming place of opposition We against the government of Governor Udom Emmanuel there by warming themselves into the political centre stage of our party to assume various leadership roles.

“As rightly put by one of the APC bigwigs in the state during an interaction with The Nation newspaper that most of those appointed from Akwa Ibom into president Buhari’s Government  did not in any way labour for the victory of the party.

“It is regrettable to note that, the issue of becoming a registered APC member in the state especially for “the mighty”, has taken a new dimension in the state.       Instead of going through the required registration process , many “mighty men” have assumed the position of Government opponents by talking carelessly about government of the day thereby  making a subtle move into the APC for political reward.

“We are compelled by the recent attack on Governor Udom Emmanuel by the former Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Prof. Etok Ekanem to come out and state categorically that this subtle move by Prof. Ekanem to garner popularity in order to settle his feet in the party shall be resisted by the APC members from Itu Local Government Area.

“Prof Ekanem that we know does not have the interest of the people of Itu Local Government at heart. We challenge Prof. Ekanem to tell the world what agricultural development he brought to the people of the local government when he was the commissioner.

“We can only describe Prof. Ekanem  as a fair weather politician who only dance around corridor of power when there things to eat. We recall that it was this same Prof Ekanem  who went on radio to urge the people of Itu  and the entire Akwa Ibom people to support power shift to Eket Senatorial District, today, he has rescinded his decision and resort into the position of an arm-chair critic.

“As somebody who has travelled wide and ventured into many research areas, we had expected Prof. Ekanem , after his failed political outing in the state, to engage himself in researches that will bring solutions to agricultural problems in the country.

“Prof. Ekanem over time has always made himself a-ready tool in the hands of those who wish to use him to achieve political point. We recall too that Prof. Ekanem was one of the instruments used by the former Vice Chancellor of University of Uyo Prof Akpan Ekpo to truncate the future of some university students who engaged in a peaceful protest over high school fees.

“Let it be known to Prof. Ekanem that whoever is using him with a promise to smuggle into the party has filed. We state clearly here that APC members in Itu Local Government Area do not know Prof Etok Ekanem , as such, we urge Mr. Umanah Okon Umanah and the new NDDC Chairman Mr. Nsima Ekere to be wary of Prof Ekanem’s antics of political proximity to them.”
