The political leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Asutan ward five, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Mr. Idongesit James says despite the leadership crisis threatening the existence of the party at the national level, constant membership drive will strengthen the party ahead of next elections.
He said this thinking has prompted him to be hosting monthly general meeting of the party in the ward.
James while addressing the ward meeting for the month of August in his hometown, Ikot Akpasia said in the last three months the party in the ward has received decampees and intending members.
He said stakeholders of the party from the 11 villages in the ward shall henceforth be holding monthly general meetings in their respective villages to keep members in the villages who cannot attend ward meetings abreast of activities of the party.
“From next week we will host meetings in all the villages in this ward. The essence is to keep our members up-to-date on the activities of the party at the ward, chapter and State so that they won’t be kept in the dark or deceived to cross-carpet. I believe that we will grow our membership by doing so”.
“I believe that with constant engagements with our people in all the villages, it will be easier to know, and attend to their needs. This will also make it easier for us to win future elections”, he added.
Mr. James who is a former member board of the Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited urged members of the party in the ward to respect the zoning arrangement of the party which ceded the position of executive chairman of the local government to Asutan ward three.
“The leadership of the party in Asutan ward five totally supports the decision of the party to zone the position of the executive chairman of the council in the forthcoming local government councils elections to Asutan ward three. I urge party members in this ward to be steadfast in keeping this decision”.
The ward leader paid tribute to the political leader of Ibesikpo Asutan local government area Prince Uwem Ita Etuk for giving him and other stakeholders opportunity to contribute to the growth of the party.
While encouraging members of the party to remain loyal to the leadership of the party, James said the successes recorded by the PDP in Ibesikpo Asutan local government in all previous elections were a product of sacrifice, selfless leadership and mentorship by Prince Uwem Ita Etuk.
The ward has launched what is called Unity Volunteers Squad, a unit that will ensure orderliness at polling units during elections. The squad has two persons per village.
The meeting was attended by the Special Assistant on projects monitoring to the governor, Etubom David Jackson; Hon. Ita Obot; current and former chapter and ward officers of the party from Asutan ward five and coordinators of manifestation 2016, a campaign team for the chairmanship of Mr. Aniedi Obot.
