Akwa United FC of Uyo secured their first win on the road in the current campaign, stunning Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 3-1, in a rescheduled match day 4 fixture played in Katsina.
Emeka Isaac, Ubong Ekpai and Chigozie Emmanuel gave the Promise Keepers a three goal lead within the quarter hour mark, before the home side pulled one back, through Ibrahim Mustapha, minutes to the break.
Ere Dokubo made four changes to the side that drew barren away at Wikki Tourists of Bauchi on Sunday, with Nicholas Joseph, Ubong Ekpai and Franklyn Ekong making the cut.
The Promise Keepers’ drew first blood, five minutes into the game, when Emeka Isaac fired home from a rebound. The home side edged close t leveling terms minutes later, when Emmanuel Ariwa was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area. Yakubu Auta spurned off the resultant spot kick.
Ubong Ekpai grabbed the second in the 10th minute, from Nnamso Edo’s corner. Chigozie Emmanuel put the game behind Ladan Bosso’s side five minutes later, when he drilled home a left footer, following an assist from Ekpai.
Elkanemi managed to reduce the deficit in the 42nd minute through Ibrahim Mustapha. Akwa held onto the score-line through the remainder of the duration.
The win lifts the Uyo side to 4th on the log, having amassed 15 points from 9 games. Akwa United are two points off leaders, Enugu Rangers.
