Stakeholders, opinion leaders and entire people of Akwa Ibom State have been urged to pull together to buttress the revolutionary development agenda of the Governor Udom Emmanuel led Government in the State.
The newly sworn-in Special Adviser to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Political/Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson said this amidst the swearing-in jolly bash in his Uyo residence.
Barrister Ekong Sampson while addressing high-ranking royal fathers, community leaders, party stalwarts and several other stakeholder of the Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo extraction of the State, cautioned the people on the dangers of separation and staying aloof and trying to pull down a Government that is so open armed and accommodating.
In an illustration to clarify on what he termed “right to foolishness”, he said a person that is stays aloof while others are enjoying the dividends of democracy is like a man that turns down opportunities to board a aeroplane but stays in his house to abuse, curse or pray for the plane to crash anytime it passes over his house. Such people, he added, boast of their right to do or say whatever they wish, but forget that the price for exercising such rights is nothing but losses, frustration and depression. He appealed to Akwa Ibom people to resist being lured into such.
Ekong Sampson in his statement called on all well-meaning Akwa Ibom people to shirk their divergences and connect with the Government of the day so as to build Akwa Ibom from the various constituents as well as draw desired dividends from the source.
He summarised his message to Akwa Ibom people in an Ibibio adage that says: “eto ayemme uwem, asie ada akpere ibong”, which may be interpreted thus: “a tree that wishes to live, stays close to the kolanut tree”. Representing the PDP led Government in Akwa Ibom State as the “kolanut tree” Barrister Sampson therefore admonishes everyone to connect to the Government, either directly or through its various branches or roots, rather than stay to nurse an unrealistic anticipation of pulling it down.
Present at the occasion was the Member representing Mkpat Enin in the AKHA, Hon. (Engr.) Otobong Ndem, who had earlier described Ekong Sampson as the Political Junction and Heartbeat of Mkpat Enin Politics. The House Committee Chairman on Rural Development also joined his predecessor to urge Mkpat Enin-Ikot Abasi-Eastern Obolo people to demonstrate their gratitude to the Governor for his generosity towards their constituency by unflinching support and solidarity with the State Government.
The Chairman, Mkpat Enin Youth Council, Comrade Ubong Ememe described Governor Udom Emmanuel as “well informed” in his appointments. Ememe said Ekong Sampson, aside being a strong voice and a major stakeholder in the politics of the area, has played a cardinal role in the empowerment of youths.
The Youth Council Chairman, while declaring the support of the youth front for the Governor Udom Emmanuel led Government in the State, expressed optimism in the prowess of Barrister Sampson to synchronise the interests various political groups in the State.
The Paramount Ruler of Mkpat Enin, HRM Edidem Akpan Akpan Ekpene also led a delegation of royal fathers to declare the blessing of the traditional institution on the Government and the Governor’s appointment.
