Former Speakers of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly are forging a partnership which will bolster efficient service delivery by the current administration in the state.
Speaking with assembly correspondents on Wednesday after a closed door meeting with the Speaker of the 6th assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Onofiok Luke, one of the former Speakers who were present at the meeting, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Nse Ekanem, said that the former speakers had met at the instance of Hon. Onofiok Luke to begin a talk which would foster new partnership that could boost ongoing development efforts in the state.
“It is just the beginning of the talk and this is not unusual; we are all partners in the administration of the state. He (Hon. Onofiok Luke) wanted to find out from us what ideas and contributions we could make into the administration. We gave ideas on how the state legislature could be run for the benefit of the people”, Barr Ekanem said, speaking on behalf of the former speakers.
Asked why the interaction was important at this time, Barr. Ekanem, who was speaker of the House in the 1st assembly, said “when we meet like this, we interact because we come from different constituencies and we appraise situations and give ideas and advise the speaker.”
He said from what has now been started under the leadership of Barr. Onofiok Luke, the Speaker could be better informed on issues of public importance and would properly relay their contributions to the governor.
“With this, we can have efficient administration in the state,” he said.
It was learnt that the invitation for the meeting was extended to all the former speakers of the House by Speaker Onofiok Luke.
