A former Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Navy Captain Joseph Adeduro Adeusi (Rtd) is dead.
As at the time of filing this report, reasons for his death was unknown but sources told TheMail that Adeusi was ill before his death.
Adeusi was governor of Akwa Ibom State from August 21, 1996 – August 10, 1998 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha.
He was succeeded by Group Captain Eyepeiyah John Ebiye who handed over power to a democratically elected Governor, Obong Victor Attah on May 29, 1999.
He is fondly remembered in the state for founding Akwa United Football Club, which played their inaugural match against the Rangers International F.C of Enugu in December 1996.
Adeusi was usually spotted during some important state government events, especially anniversary celebrations of the state alongside other former military governors of the state.
According to Government House sources, a minute silence was observed in his honour at the monthly Government House Prayer Meeting at Hilltop Mansion, Uyo on Saturday.
