Mechanical Engineers charged to key into Gov Udom’s industrialization programme

Members of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers in the state have been charged to key into Governor Udom Emmanuel’s industrialization programme.

Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Professional body, Engr. Ekerete Usak, gave the charge during the 29th International Conference/Annual General Meeting with the theme; “Surviving An Economy in Recession; Strategies for Nigerian Mechanical Engineers, held in Uyo last week.

Usak, who listed numerous achievements of the present administration in the state to the participants, said that any leader, who thinks engineering technology and industrialization, is the right leader, adding that Governor Udom Emmanuel is the right Governor to the people of Akwa Ibom. He urged his professional colleagues to be ready to go to entrepreneurial activities since manufacturing is their field.

He promised to collaborate and network with others with a view to rise to the fate of greatness in the spirit of ‘Dakkada’ by way of contributing their quota to the state government’s industrialization agenda and by extension as problem solvers, devise available strategies of taking the country out of economic recession. He expressed optimism that by their inputs, the government programmes in the regards will be better off.

While emphasizing on the role of mechanical engineers as evidenced in industrialized states of the world, Usak wished participants at the conference happy deliberation, even as he ended his speech thus; ‘I am a Mechanical Engineer, Mme dakkada, mechanical engineers e-dakka-da!

In his speech, the National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Engr. Ugochukwu Nzurumike urged participants to look inward for the solution to Nigeria’s current economic situation, saying that mechanical engineers are the professionals, who hold solution to the country economic crisis and promised that as a body, they will do their best after the deliberations in proffering solution to the country’s recession.

The Conference featured Paper presentations on topics such as, “Sustainable Development  of Nigeria in the Face of Dwindling Oil Revenues: The Role of the Engineer”, by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engr. Benson Abounu, and “Achievement of the National Automotive Council 2007-2015”, by the Director General, Automotive Design and Development Council, Engr. (Dr) Aminu Jalal respectively.

Moreso, some financial institutions that participated at the conference, like Bank of Industry and Diamond  bank, as partners to the Professional body enlightened the participants on how to access facilities to which, the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers has agreed to guarantee members who are entrepreneurs’ minded and want to go into business.

Other programmes at the conference include: hands-on workshops, specialized exhibitions, university exhibitions among others.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of excellent awards to deserving members of institution.
