Military coup: I was not trapped in Turkey, says Gov. Udom

The Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Hangar (MRO) Unit of the Ibom International Airport, Akwa Ibom State, will soon become operational.

Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel announced this while interacting with Government House Correspondents shortly on arrival at the Airport from an official trip outside the Country.

Governor Emmanuel who stated that he had useful talks with foreign investors that would bring about positive impact in the industrialization programme of his administration pointed out that the M.R.O project was pivotal in his business interactions with foreign partners.

The Governor emphasized his administration’s determination to stimulate the industrial sector of the economy to enable it generate employment and improve the living standard of the citizens.

He dismissed as false insinuations that he was trapped in Turkey by the failed Military putsch stressing that no amount of blackmail would deter him from canvasing for investors to explore the abundant resources of the state for the benefit of every Akwa Ibom person.

He frowned at the threat by Non Academic Staff Union of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic to embark on Industrial Action over their demand for extension of retirement age from sixty to sixty five and said that such policy only applies to the Academic staff of the institution.

Governor Emmanuel cautioned those habouring such intentions to desist from it to avoid unpleasant consequences and stated that attempt by the non academic staff to disrupt academic activities shall be adequately sanctioned within the provisions of the law.
