Nigeria is not Broke- ‘Baba Ntan’

The member representing Uyo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly. Hon. Mike Enyong has asserted that Nigeria is not broke but attributed to the current hardship being faced in the country to the mismanagement of Nation’s economy.

Enyong who is currently the Chairman, House of Representatives ad-hoc Committee on Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) in the National Assembly made this position known at the weekend while interacting with newsmen in Uyo.

The lawmaker who is popularly known as ‘Baba Ntan’ listed some of the economic sabotage committed by top Nigerian officials in collaboration with some multi-Nationals operating in the country to include their refusal to pay appropriate tax to the coffers of the federal government.

The lawmaker who posited that developed Nations like the United States of America(USA) are where they are because their citizens pay tax as when due, noting that Nigeria will make more meaningful impact when the citizens pay their taxes.

He cited a recent case where some oil multi-national in the country were caught exporting crude oil that was not accounted for worth about 17 billion Dollars, adding that some Nigerians conspire with the multi-nationals to sabotage the wealth of Nation.

Enyong who is reported to have recently moved a tactful motion on the floor of the National Assembly on some irregularities observed in the oil sector of the nation’s economy (bothering on the crude oil swap agreement between the federal Government and the multi-nationals) noted that some of the oil coys operating in the country have been shortchanging Nigeria leading to the cancellation of the crude oil swap deals with the affected multi-nationals.

He tongue lashed the APC led government for failing to fulfil most of its campaign promises while expressing regret that his party, the PDP is no longer in charge at the centre.

He also blamed the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to provide the needed palliatives to cushion the effect of the “man made” economic recession in the country.

He also called on the federal government to adopt short term measures to tackle the economic hardship in the land adding that the government should do something urgently to assuage the feelings of the masses.
