The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Akwa Ibom State Branch has requested for the establishment of a general hospital in Uyo to cater for the increasing population of residents in the state capital. The Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo (MFR) who was the guest of honour, stated that the state government had already concluded plans to equip some hospitals across the state with state of the arts facilities to address the medical challenges experienced in health care delivery.

The medical doctors under the aegis of AK NMA also embarked on three days free medical our reach at health center Ikot Ekpeyak, Ikono, Uyo where surgical operations and other treatment were given to the community free of charge.

The Physicians’ week was rounded off on October 30 with a novelty football match between the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) which ended in a barren draw.

The theme for this year’s physicians’ week is “Health Care Delivery in a Frail Economy: Challenges and way forward”.
