The Commissioner, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Hon Victor Antai has revealed that for the past 10 years of which the Ibom Meridien Hotels and God resort has been in operation, no profit has been made from the hotel into the coffers of government.

The Commissioner gave the revelation on Monday when he appeared before the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Finance to defend the Ministry’s 2018 budget estimates.

He said owing to the inability, a decision has been made for the name of the hotel to be changed from Le Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort now to be known and called as, Ibom Hotels And Golf Resorts.

It could be recalled that the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel had recently expressed displeasure over the inability of the operators of the hotel to render the account of the profits earned and expenditures of the hotel with threat that the license given them will be withdrawn.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism noted that the revenue generation for the 2017 fiscal year was zero percent.

The ministry proposed N4.9,45 million for 2018 fiscal year stating that the funds will be used for the development of Ibeno beach, museum, Ibom unity park, Orange September and Maintenance of Ibom Hotels and  Golf resorts.
