Only me, Tony Akan, Ntukudeh, 2 others delivered PDP in Uruan – Akpabio

Akpabio

Indigenes of Uruan have lashed out at the political leader of the PDP in northern Uruan, Engr. Offiong Akpabio for warning Governor  Udom Emmanuel and the Peoples Democratic Party against stepping into Uruan for his second term campaign.

Akpabio said the government and the party   have failed to keep to its promises to the people of Uruan.

Engr Offiong Akpabio, whose wife is the state PDP women leader made the statement in Mbiaya at the reception of the former Commissioner for Transport, Mr Godwin Ntukude by his kinsmen.

He told the audience that he bankrolled the campaign of Governor Udom Emmanuel from the proceeds from the hatchery at Mbiaya Uruan, saying that he and some elders in the area have put modalities to stop the PDP and its agents from campaigning in the area since they have failed to construct the road linking Mbiatok Itam, Mbiaya and Mbiakong in Uruan .

Akpabio however said the only thing that would make him and other leaders from the area renege on the vow is seeing the governor mobilize contractors for the construction of Mbiaya – Mbiakong road.

Our reporter said the visibly angry Elder made the statement before the Deputy governor, Mr Moses Ekpo who graced the occasion.

Engr Akpabio said for over 16 years of PDP leadership in the State, no single project or positive empowerment has been done for Uruan.

He said former governor Senator Godswill Akpabio did not redeem any of the campaign promises he made to the people of Uruan.

The northern Uruan political leader said the acclaimed Mbak- Nung Oku – Ishiet Road was not in the interest of Uruan, argued that Mbiakong – Mbiaya road needs the greatest attention.

“The Anua – Mbak- Issiet road under construction is not Uruan road, the only Uruan road the governor should have constructed is the Nduetong- Ibiaku Uruan- Mbiaya Uruan road” he said.

Offiong was alleged to have said, “myself and only four people delivered PDP in Uruan. Apart from myself, the other four persons are- Tony Akan, Tony Essien, Ntukude, and Usenobong Akpabio.

Reacting to the news, a PDP stalwart from central Uruan condemned the statement credited to the leader, saying that he has betrayed the confidence the party and the people repose on him.

The stalwart, who did not want his name on print wondered why an acclaimed leader should stoop so low to the extent of dishing out such threat at the governor and the party.

He asked Engr Akpabio to cover his face in shame and walk out of the party boldly if he was tired instead of causing havoc.

“So in Uruan only four people delivered Uruan to PDP?  And the four, five persons mentioned here are from the same village and ward. How come they delivered the party during primary? It seems Engr Akpabio was speaking under the influence of alcohol or was speaking to intimidate deputy governor who was present at the occasion.

“The fact that this statement was made by a man whose wife is the PDP state women leader,  his cousin, a PDP chapter chairman and his son an SA to the governor and himself the one who handled the construction of the Hatchery at Mbiaya, leaves much to be desired”, the party stalwart added.

Also, a member of the party Affiong Asuquo said such a statement could cause conflict if not properly handled.

“So southern and central Uruan are not part of Uruan? How can a man that has benefited so much from the present administration be the very person attacking the government?”

Meanwhile, Concerned indigenes of Uruan have called on Engr Offiong Usen Akpabio to retract the statement he made at that event.

The group in the statement made available to newsmen in southern Uruan says it least expected such diatribe from a leader who have enjoyed the fortunes of the party.

A statement by the group read, “Worried by the diatribe from an acclaimed political leader who have for over sixteen years led the people of Northern Uruan to doom, we wish to put for the  record that no village, indigene or group is greater than another”.

“For over 18 years of PDP reign in Akwa Ibom State , Engr Offiong Usen Akpabio has not only been in the corridors of power, but has been a deciding factor even against the wishes and aspirations of the people of Uruan. This is the same man who nominated Mr Godwin Ntukude as commissioner, his wife as state women leader, his cousin as chapter chairman and his son as SA to Governor, all from same village and ward.

“That, Offiong, whose wife is the women leader, junior brother, a PDP chapter  chapter and son a personal adviser to the Governor on projects monitoring could condemn PDP and forewarned them not to come for campaign in Uruan is worrisome”.

The group commended governor Udom Emmanuel for approving the construction of Mbak – Nung Oku – Ishiet market road and urged him to go about his business of governing the State, saying that youths, women and men of proven integrity are solidly behind him.
