Plot by the nephew of the immediate past Governor, Prince Ukpong Akpabio to embarrass the incumbent Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has fallen flat. Findings by TheMail reveal that Prince had angry and insulted that he was not consulted for the ‘Nda Ye Udom’ Thank You rally (though now botched), and had mobilized his structures in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District to make sure the event does not hold, a plot said to have targeted at embarrassing Udom.
It is understood that Prince has been very unhappy with the current administration after being frozen out of the system he says he played a major role in installing.
Prince, popularly known as ‘Mega’ had planned on capitalizing on the rift between the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Aniefiok Wilson Iwaudofia and the Youth Leaders of the PDP to embarrass the governor.
TheMail learnt on good authority that Prince had mobilized his foot soldiers, giving them an order that they must not allow the Ikot Ekpene leg of the rally to hold.
The thank you tour which was initially billed to hold in the 3 Senatorial Districts of the State is organized by Iwaudofia.
However, a feud broke out on Sunday between Iwaudofia and the Youth Leaders of PDP in the state.
The Youth Leaders in a press statement said they were unaware of the thank you tour, saying such event cannot hold without their knowledge and involvement.
They lambasted the SA on Youth Matters, saying that he cannot be more catholic than the Pope.
Our reporter learnt on good authority that Iwaudofia has been sidelining the PDP Youth Leaders in many political activities involving youths in the state.
It is understood that Iwaudofia has not been involving the PDP Youth Leaders in the monthly Akwa Ibom Youth Prays organized by his office.
This and many more have been the sins of the governor’s aide who incurred the wrath of the party youth leaders when he once again sidelined them in the planned thank you tour.
Some of the Youth Leaders who spoke to TheMail on condition of anonymity said that Iwaudofia is too greedy, which informs why he has chosen to sideline them and do everything on his own.
The reaction by the Youth Leaders had caused ripples, with several stakeholders intervening in the interest of the governor and the government at large.
One of those who intervened was the governor’s close man, Akparawa Ephraim Akparawa Inyang-eyen. The former Commissioner for Works had called for a meeting on Monday at his residence.
In attendance were Iwaudofia, State PDP Youth Leader, Enobong Harry and all the PDP Chapter Youth Leaders.
According to our sources who attended the meeting, Ephraim had pleaded with the aggrieved parties to sheath their swords in the interest of the government they are partakers.
Iwaudofia, according to our sources apologized to the PDP Youth Leaders for his many gaffes, pledging to always carry them along in any activity pertaining to youths in the state.
To the amazement of the Party Youth Leaders, it was revealed that the governor had approved N12million for the proposed three-legged event.
They however resolved that the event will no more hold in Eket and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts, but a grand rally will be held in Uyo on Thursday.
Meanwhile, if the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Iwaudofia and the PDP Youth Leaders in the State do not put their house in order and work in unison, youth structures in the state may be hijacked by the duo of Tony Akan and Isantim Kenneth Okon.
Isantim Kenneth Okon is now Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government Monitoring and Political Youth Groups, while Rt. Hon. Anthony Akan is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Party Affairs and Coordinator of SA’s on Grassroot Mobilisation.
A very competent source who didn’t want his name on print told TheMail that when real political activities begin ahead of 2019, the duo may be the ones in charge of mobilization of youth structures across the 31 Local Government Areas.
The source informed the paper that Akan and Okon who had long spells in their LGAs as Council helmsmen had recently acquired a property in Ewet Housing for the effective discharge of their duties.
The house is alleged to belong to the immediate past Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Prince Enobong Uwah. Uwah is said to have given out the building free of charge for use by the duo because of his relationship with them.
The source said that being senior in the business of youth mobilization and having great followership across the state, the duo may likely hijack youth structures ahead of the 2019 election.
