Raphael Edem Donates Midgets, Cement to NUJ

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council have gotten delivery of 15 midgets and 50 bags of cement courtesy of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Comrade Raphael Edem as donation to the Union.

Comrade Edem who delivered the donation yesterday at the NUJ Secretariat, Uyo said the gesture is a token from him to compliment the love his boss, Governor Udom Emmanuel have for journalists in the State, thus contribute in assisting journalists do their work effectively and also contribute in the ongoing development of the massive NUJ two-storey office complex at the Union Secretariat.

It could be recalled that the State Compere on 3rd May 2017 on the occasion of the Press Freedom day had promised to donate the items.

In his remark, Comrade Edem noted that his desire to support the press in carrying out its weighty responsibility towards the advancement of the society informed his donation.

He added ” it is important to understand that the responsibility of the press is greater than what many may understand. An informed citizenry is an empowered citizenry. It is on that note that I said I will provide midgets especially in this era people complain of being misquoted. When you have someone on record it will help not to misquote or the person quoted not to deny”.

He wished those who will benefit from the midget well and urged them to carry out their work professionally.

Donating 50 bags of cement to the Union, the Governor’s Aide said the massive two-storey Office complex undertaken by Elder Patrick Albert’s administration was impressive and necessary of support from anyone who appreciates developmental project.

He said ” while I commend the NUJ leadership for the work they have been doing. I think each and every one of us has a responsibility of contributing to the development of this State no matter where we find ourselves especially those who influence public opinion which the press happen to be”.

In his response, the Chairman of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, Elder Patrick Albert commended Comrade Raphael Edem for fulfilling the promise he made.

He noted that the gesture by him should be a wake-up call to many, especially in government circles to see the need to support journalists in carrying out their responsibility to the society.
