The elders of Ikono have passed a vote of implicit confidence on Governor Udom Emmanuel and his government. Under the aegis of Ikono PDP Elders Consultative Forum, the elders in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting held at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo saluted the governor’s inspiring leadership style so far especially in the areas of industrialization, infrastructural development and human capital development.
They pledged their unflinching support and unalloyed loyalty to the governor and his government in the task of sustaining the superior performance of the immediate past administration.
Parts of the communiqué reads: “That conscious of our heritage as the Cradle and conscience of Ibibio Nation, we will at all times work to defend the integrity and honour that go with that recognition.
“That we recall at one of our meetings held on the 29th day of January, 2015, we had unanimously resolved as a people to support the candidature of Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for the office of Governor of our dear state.
“That we were bold to take that stance, which as at that time seemed politically very risky, having been convinced that Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel not only stood shoulder higher above the other contenders for the office, but was from Eket Senatorial District to which the party had duly zoned the office of Governor in 2015.
“That on Saturday, 11th April, 2015, we demonstrated faith and pragmatism in the Divine Mandate Campaign philosophy of Mr Udom Emmanuel when we willingly and overwhelmingly gave him over 39,000 of our votes; one of the highest returns in the state. Twisted Mind, by Mista Xto

/> “That we are glad and very thankful to God that after a long judicial battle with the opposition, the Supreme Court intervened by causing the Supreme Court of Nigeria to deliver judgment based on justice, law and good conscience, thus affirming the mandate that the entire state, overwhelmingly gave His Excellency, M Udom Gabriel Emmanuel on 1th April, 2015.
“That we therefore most heartily congratulate His Excellency, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, our dear Governor and the entire peace – loving people of the sate on this feat.”
The elders also appreciated the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Iboro Ekanem, the member representing Ikono in the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Victor Udofia and the Chairman, Ikono Local Government Transition Committee, Hon Asuquo Nana Udoh for the frontline role they played in the election of the governor and the solidarity they demonstrated in the process leading to the Supreme Court judgment.
They aligned themselves with the position of the PDP in Ikono which had ratified the zoning of the office of Council Chairman to Ediene/Itak, zoning of the office of Vice Chairman of the Council to Ikono South and Chapter Chairman to Ikono Middle.
Among the 34 political stalwarts who signed the communiqué include Sir Sunday Udo Akpan, Barr Goddy Umoh, Hon Richard Essien, Hon Godwin Udofia, and Obong Ibanga Udo Akpan.
