Former Minister of Petroleum, Atuekong Don Etiebet has declared that by the virtue of his position as the Managing Director/CEO of Niger Delta Development Commission, His Excellency, Obong Nsima Ekere is also the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

The APC chieftain stated this during the reception ceremony organized in honour of Nsima Ekere after his inauguration as the MD of the new NDDC Board by President Muhammadu Buhari (as represented by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs) last Friday.

Atuekong Etiebet, himself a former Governorship aspirant in the state said “the M.D of NDDC is in charge of nine Niger-Delta states, and by implication, he is our Governor”.

Etiebet however appealed to Mr. Nsima Ekere to award contracts to them (APC chieftains) as he assumes office as head of the interventionist agency.

“All of us here are contractors, including myself. We need contracts in the commission”, said Don Etiebet.

Corroborating Etiebet’s plea to Ekere that they be awarded contracts, former State PDP Chairman turned APC Chieftain, Chief Otu Ita Toyo said “Let us know that political goodies is turn by turn. Obong Attah is here, in my time as PDP total chair, I had enough goodies”.

However, former Governor of the State, Obong Victor Attah gave a statesmanly advice, imploring Ekere to appoint young men in order to help him succeed.

“Appoint young men as your technical assistant to help you achieve optimal goal”, Attah said.

Responding, Obong Nsima said they (the APC) will soon takeover power in the state.

“This is the first time that a different political party outside PDP holds a reception in Akwa Ibom Liaison, Abuja. We are going to take over the state for APC”, said the former Deputy Governor.

Meanwhile, Obong Nsima Ekere officially took over from the Acting Managing Director of NDDC, Ibim Seminitari on Monday.

The official handing over took place on Monday at the agency’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ekere said NDDC will restructure the balance sheet, reform governance protocols, restore the core mandate and reaffirm our collective commitment.

Mr. Ekere said he is expecting to have an exciting and fulfilling journey with the NDDC.
