Udom offers fresh window of employment to 5,000 aggrieved teachers

Akwa Ibom State Government has restated it determination to provide qualitative education for the teeming youths of the state by recruiting qualified personnel who will drive the vision to achieve the expected objective.

Governor Udom Emmanuel stated this at Ibom International Airport while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents on arrival from Abuja where he went on official engagement.

He said : “a fresh recruitment of teachers would soon be conducted and those who are affected by the recent cancellation of the last faulty recruitment would take advantage of the opportunity to secure the job and render quality service in the teaching profession”.

According to him, the foundation for the recruitment of the five thousand teachers was faulty and the process did not follow the due process as some of the appointment letters were issued through a dubious syndicate who took advantage of some loop holes to hijack the recruitment by issuing fake appointment letters to unsuspecting and desperate applicants.

“Let me clear here that we have tried to regularise the appointment, believe me it was on a wrong foundation. We need to look at the background of the applicants to ensure that they have the right qualification and had gone through the right process. I am assuring the 5000 people that the recruitment excercise will start with them. They don’t need other paper to participate in the test other than the “appointment letter “. This is what they would use to justify their appointment “.

“I can boldly say that those carrying the fake employment letters got it from a syndicate that has been squashed because I can’t understand how qualified teachers would kick against participating in a test for the regularisation of their employment. We are above partisanship in everything we do especially when it involves the future of our children…. He stated.

Governor Emmanuel however assured that those with genuine certificates and requisite teaching qualification would be recruited after passing the aptitude test to be conducted by a professional examination body.

While emphasising that he would not be intimidated by sentiments to compromise standard with mediocrity the Governor pointed out that the quality of educational system is determined by the crop of personnel employed in the institutions to impart knowledge.

The Governor said his administration is working assiduously for the conversion of Maritime Academy at Oron Local Government Area to a Degree awarding institution and assured that the move has received a tentative endorsement of the Presidency.

On the issues raised by Niger Delta Leaders during their meeting with President Buhari, Governor Emmanuel harped on the need for the Presidency to make pronouncement that would facilitate the relocation of Cooperate Headquarters of Oil Companies to the Region.

He also made a case for the inclusion of the people of the Niger Delta in the allocated of Oil blocks and called on the Federal Government to revisit the Aluminium Smelter Company (ALSCON) at Ikot Abasi Local Government Area with a view to putting the asset to a viable economic use.
