Some politicians who have interest in making the soon-to-be constituted State Executive Council led by Governor Udom Emmanuel have stormed Abuja to lobby the governor’s political benefactor and immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio.
TheMail can authoritatively report that last week, Abuja witnessed an influx of Akwa Ibom politicians who stormed the residence and the office of Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Akpabio in order to lobby him to influence their nomination as Commissioners.
Sources close to Akpabio told our reporter that most of the lobbyists followed the former governor to everywhere he went while their stay in Abuja lasted. This, according to our sources was to get the attention of Akpabio and also have an opportunity to beg him to forward their names to Udom for appointment.
One of the sources informed the paper that those who laid siege for the senator were some of the “Akpabio Boys” in the recently dissolved exco. The source revealed that these politicians are leaving no stone unturned and are making frantic efforts at making a return to the exco.
This paper learnt that a prominent woman politician had visited the wife of the senator, Mrs. Unoma Akpabio at their palatial Abuja residence to lobby for inclusion of women in the new cabinet. Our source learnt that Mrs Akpabio bluntly told her visitor that she will not meddle into political affairs in the state, and that the nomination of anybody into the state executive is the exclusive preserve of the governor.
The paper also learnt from a credible source that Mrs Akpabio had also told her husband not to meddle into the state exco matter.
The list of new commissioners and Special Advisers will likely be forwarded to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly this week for screening and confirmation.
