Uyo PDP ward 8 holds general meeting

The Peoples Democratic Party ward 8, Uyo LGA, have concluded her 2016 end of year general meeting, where the need for party loyalty, grassroots mobilization and support for the Governor Udom Emmanuel led PDP administration in the state was emphasized.
. In his address of welcome to all members of the party from Uyo Ward, who thronged the well attended gathering, the Ward Chairman, Obong William Akpan commended the stakeholders, elders, women and youths as well as all faithfuls of the party who turned out from all the 14  polling Units  of the nine villages in the Ward to attend the end of year get together.
Obong Akpan stressed that, the party was energizing and following Governor Emmanuel’s policy of Political inclusiveness by carrying all members and intending members along so that they can support good governance and continue to attract, as well as enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The Ward Chairman said the meeting was also convened to serve the objective of inaugurating stakeholders Committee of the party chosen from every polling unit, reflecting all the villages, and congratulated those who made it, charging them to reinforce their commitment to helping build and sustain the structures of the party at their units and villages.
Also speaking, the Uyo Senatorial District Chairman of the party, who also doubles as  State Vice Chairman, Elder Imoh Okon, expressed delight at the massive turn out of the people of the Ward for the meeting which was held on Saturday  3rd December 2016 at Primary school, Iton Ikono Uyo.
Elder Okon said he is impressed by the enthusiasm and sacrifice the members have continued to demonstrate, maintaining that, PDP is the party for all and is firmly on ground in Ward 8.
He recalled that, Ward 8 returned over four thousand votes cast for PDP in the 2015 Governorship elections and described the Ward as the PDP vote basket of Uyo.
Elder Okon said Governor Emmanuel has done well and charged the people to continue their unflinching support for the administration, assuring that, the area will benefit from the developmental programmes of the administration.
On the exercise of inaugurating stakeholders commitee of the party from all 14 polling Units and 9 villages of Ward 8, Elder Imoh Oken observed that,

the move was in response to the directive from the State leadership of the party to all chapters and Wards to work towards selecting 15 Elders per ward to be submitted to the State PDP.
The Vice Chairman charged his people to note that, Uyo Ward 8 is the first to implement this decision, and urged them to collectively in an open process go a step further to nominate the 15 Elders from the enlarged caucus of the party at the Ward, which will represent them at the State Elders council. He also commended the fact that, not women, youths and elders, were selected for full representation of not less than five people from each polling unit so that everyone will feel a sense of belonging in the party.
Elder Okon commended the governor and elected officials and appointees of Uyo extraction for their dedication to serving the people selflessly and impacting positively on the society with lofty programmes and the industrialization drive. He added that, Ikono Uyo, and his ward in particular, have massive land which can be harnessed for agricultural projects or industries, thereby urging the state government to take advantage of it.
A prominent son of Uyo and party elder in the Ward, Obong Ukpong Dan added his voice of commendation to the people who turned out in their numbers to show party solidarity. He said the doors of PDP remains open to those who would wish to. Join the party and the few who defected and may wish to return. He expressed confidence in the leadership of the party and the capacity of Governor Udom Emmanuel to move the state to greater heights and sued for support for the state government.
Highlight of the event was the formal inauguration of elders caucus of all the polling Units in the Ward by the Uyo  Senatorial Chairman of PDP, Elder Imoh Okon even as several stakeholders and women leaders gave messages of goodwill to the party and Government of the state.
