10-year-Old Wins Nobles Science Competition in Akwa Ibom

A 10-year-old girl named Milcah Ekwo has beaten over 400 contestants in Akwa Ibom State to emerge the Star Winner of a science competition which earned her a N3.8 million scholarship.
Milcah was crowned the winner of the competition on Saturday, January 25, 2025, where all the students who participated in the competition, parents and guardians gathered together to celebrate the Star Winner among other categories of winners.
Milcah from Nduo-eduo village in Eket Local Government is a Primary 5 pupil in Monef Kiddies School, Uyo who won the Star Prize of the the sixth edition of the Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) competition.
The competition which is for pupils of Primary 5 and 6 in all public and private schools in Akwa Ibom State is organised by Nobles International Secondary School in conjunction with the JETS Department of the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education.
It was gathered that over 400 students in the State participated in this highly prized competition as they assembled at the Nobles International School premises for the first round of the competition on January 11, 2025.
A week later, over 300 students who performed well during the first round converged for the final round of the competition.
The award had different categories comprising individual and group prizes.
According to a Facebook post by the Mother of the Milcah, Ekom-Umoh Micah, Young Milcah was the one who indicated interest in participating in the competition and thereafter studied day and night for the prize.
“On the day of the exam, over 400 pupils showed up, and when she returned, I asked her how it was. She responded, ‘mom, don’t worry, I will bring back the star prize’. To say the least, her confidence startled me. But who am I to doubt her”, he mother recalls.
She added that her emergence taught her when one dreams, it is possible to achieve.
