Akwa Ibom State Government Commences Closure of Illegal Medical Laboratories

Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the commencement of the inspection of Medical Laboratories in the state with the mandate of shutting down Laboratories that failed to meet the basic baseline for operations.

Speaking to some news men, the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Prof Augustine Vincent Umoh reiterated the State Government’s commitment to providing Akwa Ibom people with health services that conformed with world best practices, and stressed that the private sector wishing to complement the Government’s health agenda must provide services at their best.

The Commissioner held that it was embarrassing to note that some Laboratories were operating without the  clearance and authorization of the State Ministry of Health. He also frowned at some of the Laboratories that were registered but were offering services that were not in tandem with their terms of operation.

He said that the State Government welcomed the partnership of clean, well equipped and properly managed Laboratories that provided the public with accurate diagnosis.

On some pharmacies running Laboratories, the Commissioner expressed  dismay at the rate at which some Laboratory experts  were offering themselves to be used by pharmacists. He said that facilities could get together to offer complimentary services but frowned at pharmacists running illegal Laboratories alongside their pharmaceutical outfits.
