All Weather Golf Honours Iyoho, Celebrates 9,000-Hour Aviation Career
All Weather Golf (AWG) has honoured Captain William Uwemedimo Iyoho for his outstanding contributions and achievements in the aviation industry.
Captain Iyoho was recognised at an event held at Luton Park Hotel, Uyo, which brought together golfers, friends, associates and members of the golfing community to celebrate his accomplishments as an international pilot, entrepreneur and golfer.
The citation presented in his honour described him as a distinguished aviator, entrepreneur, golfer and gentleman, highlighting his more than three decades of professional experience and approximately 9,000 hours of flying.
Born on June 6, 1972, in Ikeja, Lagos, to Captain Lawrence Uwem Iyoho and Mrs Obiageli Iyoho, Captain Iyoho had his early education in Lagos before attending Command Secondary School, Jos. He later studied Biochemistry at the University of Uyo, graduating in 1991.
His career in aviation began in 1994 when he successfully competed for a helicopter training scholarship with Bristow Helicopters. From approximately 15,000 applicants, only two candidates were selected, with Iyoho emerging as one of the successful candidates.
After completing his helicopter training, he joined Bristow Helicopters’ operations in Eket in 1995. He subsequently rose through the ranks and became a Captain at the age of 27.
Seeking to broaden his aviation career, Iyoho later pursued fixed-wing training in Florida, United States, obtaining his Commercial Pilot Licence and Multi-Engine Rating in 2000. He subsequently worked with Fresh Air and later flew with Caverton Helicopters between 2005 and 2009.
Over the course of his career, he accumulated extensive experience across rotary- and fixed-wing aviation, obtained Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) licences in four jurisdictions and eventually progressed to command a CRJ-900 aircraft.
One of the notable milestones highlighted at the ceremony was his role on June 28, 2026, when he commanded the aircraft that inaugurated Ibom Air’s scheduled international service between Uyo and Accra Ghana.
Beyond aviation, Captain Iyoho has also distinguished himself in entrepreneurship, hospitality and sports management.
His passion for golf has also become an important part of his life. After initially taking up the sport by accompanying friends to the IBB Golf Club in 2016, he developed his game from a 28 handicap to a 12 handicap and has participated in golfing events locally and internationally, including winning the inaugural Governor’s Cup at Ibom Golf Club.
The citation noted that his journey reflects a life of continuous growth, discipline, versatility and a willingness to pursue new opportunities.
Speaking through the citation, the golfing community commended Captain Iyoho for the professional excellence and commitment demonstrated throughout his career, describing his achievements as worthy of celebration.
The event also provided an opportunity for friends and fellow golfers to celebrate his contribution to the sport and his accomplishments in aviation.
As the celebration drew to a close, Captain Iyoho was congratulated for his achievements by the Chairman AWG Hon Godwin Ekpo.
