NLC Applauds Governor Umo Eno over N80,000 Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom State Council has commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umo Eno over the announcement of a new minimum wage of N80,000.

 

The Government of Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday had announced a new minimum wage package of N80,000 for public civil servants in the State. The Government also constituted an Implementation committee with a mandate to deliver its report within one month.

 

Consequent upon the announcement, the Nigeria Labour Congress in a press release signed by the Akwa Ibom State Chairman, Comrade Sunny James and made available to newsmen on Friday said the Organised Labour in Akwa Ibom State are delighted over the development and wish to thank the Governor for the decision noting that it shows that he prioritizes the welfare of the workers.

 

“This announcement no doubt has distinguished and positioned him as a shining example for more States to emulate”, the release said.

The Council said as the Negotiation Committee is about to be inaugurated to commence discussions on the consequential adjustment to other Salary Grade Levels within the time frame allocated, workers should keep faith in the Committee to do what they described as being right.

 

The NLC assured that all the appointed members are committed to the welfare of State workers.

 

The release added that members of the Organised Labour are conscious of the commencement date of Minimum Wage Act 2024 which is July 29, 2024 and will endeavour to resolve the issues as appropriate.
