Nsit Ibom stakeholders pass vote-of-confidence on Nkanga for nominating his younger brother as Commissioner

The stakeholders in Nsit Ibom politics have passed a vote of confidence on their leader, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga for facilitating the nomination of his younger brother, Elder Amanam Nkanga into state executive council by the governor.
It could it be recalled that on Thursday, July 14, 2020, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly during its plenary received a list of eight Commissioners/Special Adviser designates from Governor Udom Emmanuel. Elder Amanam Nkanga who is a younger brother of the former MILAD made the list.
Nsit Ibom stakeholders reached the resolution during a reception of Chapter and Wards executive members of Peoples Democratic Party, Nsit Ibom Chapter held during the weekend at the Party Secretariat, Afaha Offiong.
The motion for the vote of confidence on Nkanga was moved by the LG Council Chairman, Hon. Eric Akpan and seconded by Hon. Nsikak Ikpe, Nsit Ibom Chapter Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In their note of justification for the vote-of-confidence, the PDP Stakeholders through Hon. Akpan said they were in support of the amicable resolution of the nomination imbroglio which however resulted in the younger Nkanga getting the LG’s slot.
Eric Akpan said the stakeholders’ decision to allow Nkanga to nominate his brother was hinged on their appreciation and support for his leadership.
The LG boss said the vote-of-confidence was also necessitated by the stakeholders’ dispassionate assessment of Nkanga’s contribution to the development of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
He appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for finding a son of Nsit Ibom worthy to serve in his cabinet, stating that the LGA would soon have a face in the present Government after staying for many years without a commissioner or special adviser.
The event also had in attendance the Member Representing Nsit Ibom State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Ifiok Udoh, Vice Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Council, Elder Samuel Nkanga who is another blood brother of Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, PDP Chapter Chairman – Hon. Nsikak Ikpe, Leader of Nsit Ibom Legislative Council, Hon Ekong Unnam alongside other Councillors.
Recall that it was earlier reported by TheMail Newspaper that politicians, especially some PDP stakeholders from Nsit Ibom are irked by Idongesit Nkanga’s decision to “channel all government appointments to his family”.
Speaking to TheMail reporter on Thursday night, some of the party stakeholders who pleaded anonymity said Nkanga’s action is quite disturbing and should not be condoned by the current and future governors of the state.
“First, he nominated his wife to be considered as commissioner but we rejected it. It seems he has made himself the only cock that crows in Nsit Ibom. He takes virtually everything allotted Nsit Ibom. Governor confers with him on almost everything that concerns Nsit Ibom. After his wife’s nomination created much furor and the governor asked him to nominate another person other than her, he still went and nominated his younger brother who is currently SSA to the governor. Elder Amanam Nkanga was the governor’s SA and was later promoted to Senior Special Assistant. One of his brothers is the Vice Chairman of Nsit Ibom LGA. Now that Amanam would relinquish his position as SSA, that slot might not come to Nsit Ibom again. Is that not greed? Such nepotism is only possible because the governor has too much respect for him”, one of the stakeholders said.
