PDP AKHA Members Set to Declare Support for Opposition Governorship Candidates

There is a major crack in the campaign council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly are allegedly on the verge of declaring their full support for the governorship candidates of the main opposition parties in the state.

Our reporter gathered that the lawmakers are irked by the fact that Governor Udom Emmanuel has refused to integrate them into the mainstream of the Umo Eno campaign team despite the huge loyalty accorded the party by them.

The aggrieved lawmakers are mainly state house members who are not returning for a second term in office, those who have finished their second term in office and others who recently failed the general elections said that they have perfected plans to ensure that the PDP fails in their various strongholds except those concerned act swiftly.

According to one of the lawmakers who hails from Eket Senatorial District, “We are in this position today because it is becoming obvious that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not seem to care about the critical members of this party. We had expected that with the outcome of the presidential and national assembly elections where the party performed woefully that the right thing will be done but unfortunately that has been the case.

Another lawmaker lamented that they have been treated unfairly by power brokers around the governor since the PDP primaries were completed.

“Since the PDP primaries were completed last year, there have been no concrete plans to carry members of the House of Assembly along in the scheme of things. All we keep getting are meetings with no positive effect.

“Before the just-concluded presidential elections, we had individuals whose stock in trade was blocking others from gaining access to the governor but after the elections, the whole world has seen that they had no capabilities of delivering their units let alone their wards”.

When asked by our reporter if the aggrieved lawmakers have concluded plans on which political to pitch their tent with, he said. “We are still talking to two of the main opposition candidates but of course, we will love to deliver the PDP candidate but that shouldn’t come without proper negotiations. We have people who made hundreds of millions of Naira from the just-concluded election but failed to win their units and wards”.

Meanwhile, checks by our medium revealed that the majority of the lawmakers especially those from Eket Senatorial District were able to win their units and wards during the Presidential and National Assembly elections for the PDP.
