Uyo Chairman’s wife donates desks to school
The pupils of Qua Iboe Church Group School, Oku, will by September 2023 return to meet a new learning environment as the wife of the Chairman, Uyo Local Government, Mrs. Akaninyene Uwemedimo Udo has presented new sets of dual carriage desks to the school.
The presentation was done on Friday, July 28, 2023, as government schools in Akwa Ibom State came to a close for the 2022/2023 school year.
Making the presentation during the school’s closing ceremony, Mrs. Uwemedimo said the gesture was her support to the ARISE agenda of the Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno to improve the learning environment and make the pupils comfortable during their studies when they return to school by September.
She charged the pupils to be obedient children to their parents and abhor unhealthy relationships as they embark on holidays, noting that evil company corrupts good manner.
While extending the love of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Eno to the children, Mrs. Udo also urged them to resist the temptation of taking unknown substances from friends or unfamiliar persons to avoid them being involved in drug abuse or being victims of child molestation.
On her part, the wife of the Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government, Mrs. Umo Anthony Luke, who represented the WALGON Chairperson, Mrs. Mariatherese Robson at the brief ceremony urged the pupils not to relent in their studies even when they are not within the four walls of the classroom.
The Chairman’s wife also appreciated the Uyo Council helmsman, Dr Uwemedimo Udo for his constant support to the welfare of the children of Uyo LGA.
She commended the motherly disposition of Mrs. Uwemedimo in extending her hand of care to the children of QIC Group School, Oku.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Headmistress, Mrs. Ofonime Essien expressed appreciation to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno for his interest in repositioning the education system.
She noted that primary education is the foundation of every child’s academic journey, and should be well laid out for the betterment of the pupil’s future.
The high point of the visit to the school was the presentation of back-to-school support packs to the pupils and rewarding pupils with excellent academic results.
Present during the event was the Deputy Leader, Uyo Legislative Council, Hon. Mmenyene-Abasi Michael, Honourable Praise Otu, Supervisors for Education and Manpower Development, Mr. Ekemini Bassey, Director for Social Development, Education, Information, Sports, and Culture in Uyo LGC, Mrs. Ifreke Okpon, and the Uyo Women Development Officer, Mrs. Enobong Akang.
