Well Of Science launches Eco-Girls Support Scheme

… Presents Shoppers Bag for stores, malls

Well of science, a social enterprise organisation has launched Eco-Girls Support Scheme, a programme designed to train, equip and empower girls and women with the essential skills of bag making that would be beneficial to their livelihood, add value to the environment and eradicate plastic waste in the society.

Performing the induction of the trainees in Uyo on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, Mr. Etia Nwaenang, the Chief Executive Officer, Well of Science, said the programme is targeted at empowering girls in eco-friendly bag production and to become change makers in the reduction of single-use plastic in the retail value chain, thereby reducing waste pollution.

The CEO further stressed that his company wants to achieve a better and sustainable environment, as the government cannot do it alone, hence the need to partner stakeholders. According to him, a lot of countries have already switched to eco-friendly alternatives with zero plastic.

He said “Eco girls is an impact project that would add value to our environment. I appeal to you all to take advantage of the opportunity for you our dear young girls. Be diligent and have eyes for details, embrace creativity and put your mind into what you do to make a living.”

Explaining the negative effect of using polythene bags in the 21st century, the Chief Operations Officer of Well of Science, Mr. Ubong Inyang used the opportunity to introduce Shoppers Bag, an eco-friendly and shopping bag that users would earn points at every usage.  Inyang explained that they would partner with stores and malls in the country to reduce the degradation of the environment for a cleaner and a better Nigeria.

Mr. Inyang who spoke on “time management and dedication to service”, charged the new inductees to use their time to make money. He noted that the training is to afford the girls an opportunity to prepare themselves to produce products that meet export standards, which according to him will impact their lives economically and socially.

Earlier in her address, Dean, Eco Support scheme, Mrs. Idongesit Etuk, stated that eco girls can combat the problem of flooding, global warming and other environmental problems by embracing eco-friendly approaches, and build environmentally friendly society.

Giving more insight to the training, she stated that upon completion, trainees would be exposed to the entrepreneurial opportunities in the production of biodegradable bags, reduce the hazard done to the environment, and teach the girls how to sustain our environment from plastic pollution amongst other anti eco practices.

The training which will last for two months, had over 13 eco girls inducted and set for the drill.
