“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate Lady Mae Edmonds for the passion you have in developing the creative industry. You’ve done well in encouraging our young entrepreneurs in fashion, so they’ll can compete with their counterparts outside Akwa Ibom State. All these will put Akwa Ibom on the pedestal of states that are doing well in the fashion industry.”
While extolling the benefits of the Fashion Week, especially, for young entrepreneurs in the state, the Governor’s wife expressed hope that the next administration in the state will leverage on the event to promote the rich cultural heritage of Akwa Ibom State.
“I pray that the incoming administration will adopt and make this a yearly event to showcase our rich culture. This is just the beginning. This will be one of the most important projects that Akwa Ibom State Government will be proud of in the future. And I know that as you have started this today, God will ensure this project stands the test of time.
“This event will encourage our young ones from the streets. I know there are many programmes lined up for the week, to teach people how to improve their fashion skills. I pray that so many of them will come out to learn, so they know it’s better to get a skill than beg on the streets”, she noted.
Earlier, the convener the Fashion Week, Lady Mae Edmond, said the annual event is aimed at filling the gap in the fashion and cultural industry in the state.
While describing the fashion and creative industry as the ‘new oil’, Mrs Edmond, opined that the event which is beautifully packaged will further showcase Akwa Ibom State as a brand, while promoting her food, music and fashion.
