Eight Reasons Akwa Ibom House of Assembly suspended Mkpat Enin LG Chairman, Aniekpon Ekpo

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 suspended the Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, Hon. Aniekpon Ekpo. There are reasons for his suspension, with misappropriation of funds topping the list. TheMail Newspaper presents other reasons for his suspension. 
1. Hon. Aniekpon Ekpo hauled out the Councils grader since April 15, 2021. Till date, the grader has not been returned and there is no information about its whereabouts. 
2. The grader purportedly returned to the council by the Chairman is differentfrom the grader belonging to Mkpat Enin Local Government Council.
3. The Chairman contracted a consultancy service to handle the Internally Generated Revenue of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council. The council has no information on how the funds received are managed. The monies generated were not paid into the revenue account of the council. 
4. The Chairman failed to heed to the advice of the Head of Service, Director of Finance, Director of Works of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, on the need to follow the Local government Law and the Financial Regulations in the running of the administration of the council.
5. Financial Information or decisions are never discussed at FGPC meetings. All decisions are singlehandedly taken by the Chairman. 
6. The Vice Chairman, other Exco members and Councilors are not carriedalong in the administrative functions of the council.
7.  During the sittings of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, weightier allegations/petitions bordering on outright abuse of office and gross misconduct by the Chairman were submitted to the Committee on daily basis.
8. The House during its sitting on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, received two fresh petitions against Hon. Aniekpon Ekpo.
Both petitions bothering on fraud, were forwarded to an Ad-hoc Committee constituted by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Aniekan Bassey. The Committee is chaired by the Member representing Etinan State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Aniefiok Dennis.
