Guelph Gas commences construction of CNG Mother Station in Akwa Ibom

Guelph Gas Limited, an emerging player in the compressed natural gas (CNG) Industry in Nigeria, has commenced the construction of a Mother Station in Akwa Ibom State.
The CNG Mother Station, located at Ekpene Akai, Ikot Obio Offong in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, according to Guelph Gas will produce up to 3 Million standard cubic feet of gas per day when completed.
Addressing guests during the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, April 4, 2025, Mr. Emmanuel Bassey, noted that the setting up of the mother station in Akwa State was inspired by the Gas to Prosperity Initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is fast turning Nigeria into a gas-powered economy, as such, encouraging private players into space.
Mr. Bassey also appreciated the Minister for State Petroleum (Gas) Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo Ph.D for his bold footprints in the gas industry.
He said, “I want to thank the Honourable Minister for State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo Ph.D for his support to us, not just to us, but your footprint in the gas industry is very clear. Today, the gas industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the Nigerian economy, it is a result of your hard work. We say thank you.”
The Minister, in his speech, lauded the initiative by Guelph Gas Limited for its foresight and commitment, describing it as a new chapter in Akwa Ibom’s journey towards economic transformation.
“Today is a great day in Ibesikpo and Akwa Ibom, I want us to appreciate the MD of Guelph Gas Limited for this initiative.
“Today marks yet another chapter in Akwa Ibom’s journey towards economic transformation and energy leadership. I am pleased to be here during the groundbreaking ceremony of Guelph Gas CNG Mother Station in Akwa Ibom.
“As an indigene of this State, I take immense pride in witnessing this development, and for me to contribute to the socioeconomic advancement of our people. The establishment of this CNG facility represents a critical milestone in a collective commitment to expanding Nigeria’s gas infrastructure and harnessing the full potential of our abundant natural gas resources,” he said.
Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo also assured Guelph Gas Limited of his unwavering commitment to ensuring the success of the project and lauded the company’s commitment to the Nigerian gas industry.
Also speaking, Tamuno Amiesimaka, the Technical Director of Guelph Gas Limited, noted that the project aims to supply natural gas to stranded industrial and commercial customers in the South-South and South-Eastern part of the country that is not currently connected to the country’s limited gas pipeline network.
The Facility when completed, is also expected to ensure reliable gas supply to industries, provide an effective substitution for liquid fuels with a competitive price, guarantee time and cost savings to traditional gas pipeline development as well as enhancing gas utilization and monetization policy by creating a virtual pipeline option.
Guelp Gas hinted that signing of a sales agreement was on course, having secured other requisite approvals needed for the smooth operations of the station.
Clan Head of Ibesikpo, Etebom Nsidibe Etuk, Chief Uwem Ita Etuk, Dr. Edidiong Essien-Secretary of Ibesikpo Asutan Council who represented the Local Government Chairman, and Oga Adejo-Ogiri, the Executive Secretary of the Association of Local Distributors of Gas also spoke on the occasion, all commending Guelph Gas Limited for bringing such an impactful project to Akwa Ibom State.
