Kayeon Onyeka Presents spoken word poetry at Presidential Investiture of National Honours
Kayeon Onyeka a social worker with Youth Alive Foundation (YAF), a civil society organization that contributes to advocacies that promote enabling environment for youth development in Nigeria was among few performers at the presidential investiture of National Honours and official handover of transition documents ceremony.
The event which took place at Presidential villa Abuja on Thursday, May 25, 2023 witnessed President Muhammadu Buhari confer the prestigious honours of the GCFR and GCON on the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima respectively.
It was an absorbing and highly significant event in the history of Nigeria on Thursday, 25 May, 2023 as President Muhammadu Buhari conferred the prestigious honours of the GCFR and GCON on the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima respectively.
The President also handed over the transition document to the President-elect as an integral part of events lined up for the inauguration of the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
One of the highlights of the occasion was an exceptional spoken word poetry performance by the outstanding Performance Poet, Kayeon Onyeka.
In her soul reaching and compelling performance titled ‘Arise’, Kayeon made a call for Nigerians to unite beyond tribal, religious, and political boundaries to take the country past its present challenges to fulfil its potential as a global reference for an excellent and progressive society.
The acclaimed poet emphasized the need for an accountable government that is willing to dialogue with its citizens to find the best solutions to Nigeria’s problems. She also charged every Nigerian with the personal responsibility of making Nigeria great again.
She noted that Nigerians as a people are known for great individual strengths, which when pulled together would make the nation unstoppable.
In her own words from the performance: “We are the answers to our prayers. We are the prophets and we are the prophecies”.
The poem ended with a rising applause from the enraptured audience who were no doubt stirred up to rise in their capacities to the rousing call to make Nigeria great again.
