NLC Mourns Demise of Comrade Unyime Usoro

…Directs industrial unions to fly Union flags at half-mast

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Akwa Ibom State Council, has been thrown into mourning following the demise of her former Chairman, Comrade Unyime Usoro.
The State Executive Council of NLC met at the Council Secretariat on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 for the official announcement of the demise of the former State Chairman of NLC.


According to the press statement signed by the State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Sunny James, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, Comrade Unyime Usoro, passed-on on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 after a protracted illness.


The State NLC Chairman who described Late Comrade Usoro as a Field Marshall of the Workers’ Liberation Movement, noted that Late Usoro literally gave his life to the Labour Movement, having spent all his prime years amounting to more than 25 years in the unending struggle for the protection and defense of the rights of workers, pensioners and trade unions.


Comrade James said that the vacuum that has been created by Late Usoro demise will be difficult to fill as he was always the Counselor of last resort for the leadership of Congress.


The State Executive Council (SEC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress who pulled State Congress flag to fly at half-mast as a mark of respect for the fallen hero also directed industrial unions affiliated to the NLC to fly their Union flags at half-mast.


The NLC on behalf of the workers of Akwa ibom State expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

Late Comrade Unyime Usoro, a Certified Accountant (CNA), and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), was a two-term State Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (1999 -2007) and rose to command the Struggle as the State Chairman of Congress between 2007 and 2015.

The Late former Chairman who also attended the Ruskin College Oxford, United Kingdom, was appointed a member of the Transition Committee for the take-off of the Governor Udom Emmanuel Administration in 2015, and was later on appointed Honorary Special Adviser on Labour Matters to Governor Udom Emmanuel on March, 2016, a position he held till April 2019. 

Late Usoro was the founder of Pinnacle Schools, Uyo, where he served as the Chairman, Board of Directors till his death.
