Project for Decarbonization, community resilience launched in Akwa Ibom Oil/Gas Host Communities

Green The Future Initiative, a project aimed at accelerating decarbonization and community resilience in the oil and gas host communities of Akwa Ibom State has been launched.
The project executed by The Network Advancement Program for Poverty
and Disaster Risk Reduction (NAPPDRR) is an innovative project made possible through the support of Global Greengrants Fund and Oilwatch Africa, according to the press release signed by the Executive Director of NAPPDRR, Hon. Emem Edoho and issued on Monday.
The organisation said the project which will commence in Esit Eket local government area seeks to promote methane emissions reduction, community-led energy transition, and clean energy, as well as agroecology training in Esit Eket LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
The release said that by accelerating decarbonization and community
resilience, the project aims to create a sustainable future for the host
communities.
The release noted that the expected outcomes and impacts of the project include Implementation of effective strategies to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector, promoting a cleaner environment and mitigating climate change.
Other outcomes include community-led energy transition with effort channeled towards empowering local communities to take ownership of their energy transition, promoting clean energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
The organisation noted that there will be agroecology training which will provide training and capacity-building
programmes for local farmers, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing food security.
The release added that through the project, community resilience will be strengthened by promoting sustainable livelihoods, enhancing disaster risk reduction, and improving overall well-being.

The release adds that the project is expected to have a positive impact on the host communities, promoting sustainable development, reducing poverty, and enhancing community resilience.
