The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly says report of the findings by the ad-hoc committees investigating the allegations against the suspended Chairpersons of Nsit Atai and Uyo LG Councils is ready.
Speaking to TheMail Newspaper on Thursday night, the House of Assembly spokesman, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Aniefiok Dennis Akpan said the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey has given the two committees investigating the allegations against the duo marching order to finalize their investigations and submit the reports.
“The Speaker directed all committees to submit their reports before recess. Particularly, reports dealing and having to do with the crisis in Nsit Atai and Uyo Local Government”, Barr. Dennis said.
Dennis who is the Chairman, House Committee on Information said that the report on the Nsit Atai council crisis is ready while the one on Uyo would be ready on Friday. He said both reports would be presented on the floor of the House by Tuesday next week.
The ad-hoc Committee investigating the crisis between the executive and legislature in Nsit Atai is handled by AKHA Leader, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan while that of Uyo is handled by Rt. Hon. Mark Esset.
It could be recalled that the LG chairmen were suspended on May 29, 2020 with the Speaker mandating the committees to carry out investigations and submit the report within one month.
June 29, 2020 made it exactly one month and the report is yet to be presented to the House.
Lady Emem Ibanga and Elder Imoh Okon, Chairpersons of Nsit Atai and Uyo respectively are facing allegations of mismanagement of council finances and gross abuse of office leveled against them by their Councilors.
