2023 guber: My running mate’s WAEC certificate original, says OBA

Governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Senator Bassey Albert Akpan has said his running mate, AIG Asuquo Amba (Rtd) has the originals of his certificates, including the one issued by West African Examination Council (WAEC).
Sen. Albert made this comment during the unveiling ceremony of the former police chief at the party’s campaign office along Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo on Friday.
TheMail Newspaper reports that the Senator popularly known as OBA aimed the veiled mockery at Pastor Umo Eno, the governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who is currently enmeshed in a certificate forgery scandal which has landed him in court.
“He (Amba) has an uncontroversial CV. For his First School Leaving Certificate, he has the original. His WAEC certificate, he has original. His university degree, he has his original signed by an authentic Vice Chancellor.
“We believe that our future is too sensitive to be left in the hands of a controversial person. Because my Bible tells me ‘what shall the righteous do if the foundation is faulty’? The foundation of the emergence of the incoming government of Akwa Ibom State cannot be faulty or faulted.
“When God chooses His own, everywhere is calm. The choice of God is without any form of controversy because God is not an author of confusion”, the Senator said.
Also speaking during the ceremony, the retired Assistant Inspector General of Police equally aimed a veiled dig at Pastor Eno over his controversial CV. Amba mentioned the schools he attended and asked those who were present at the unveiling ceremony to ‘go and confirm’ whether he is telling the truth about his credentials or not.
“I heard him talk about my resume. But I will still clarify certain issues because these are days of clarifications.
“I attended Salvation Army Primary School. The school is located in Surulere near Hogan Bassey. So, you can confirm. I attended Comprehensive Secondary School which is Boys High School, Oron. The school is close to Maritime Academy. Two of my seniors are here. You can go and confirm. I made Grade 1 Aggregate 23. You can go and confirm. From there, I went to School of Arts and Science, Uyo for my higher education and I made my grades there. My contemporaries are there. From there I proceeded to University of Lagos. My VC was Akin Adesola. Go and confirm.
“I did my youth service (NYSC) in Ibadan. I enlisted in Nigerian Police in 1986. My course mates are Nuhu Ribadu, Ibrahim Lamorde (both former EFCC Chairmen), Adamu Abubakar the IG that retired. The fourth person would surprise you. Donald Etim. He is my coursemate at Police College, Ikeja. We were recruited together. Whether you know he is a policeman or not, go and verify.”
Asuquo Amba is the husband of the immediate past President General of Oro Union, Chief (Mrs) Janet Amba who until her resignation from PDP was a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel.
