2023 guber: “White smoke” finally emerges from Government House as Udom picks Umo Eno as preferred successor
Ahead of the 2023 governorship election in the state, “White smoke” has finally emerged from Government House, Uyo as Governor Udom Emmanuel has picked Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno as his preferred successor.
A stakeholders meeting was convened at Government House on Sunday evening for the sole purpose of presenting Umo Eno as the governor’s choice.
Only Selected stakeholders from each of the 31 LGAs were invited for the meeting via a text message by the National Secretary of Maintain Peace Movement (MPM), Prince Enobong Uwah.
Members of the state House of Assembly who had traveled to Port Harcourt yesterday for a retreat had to hurriedly return to the state today in order to meet up with the meeting, though invitation was extended to only the leadership of the assembly.
Some guber aspirants like Senator Bassey Albert, Akan Okon and their loyalists were not invited. TheMail Newspaper understands that another aspirant, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke who was at the meeting was denied opportunity to make comments when he raised his hands.
TheMail Newspaper understands that the opening prayer was offered by a governorship aspirant from Nsit Ubium, Senator Effiong.
Former Governor, Obong Victor Attah was tasked with the onerous responsibility of presenting Umo Eno to the stakeholders as the preferred choice to succeed Governor Udom Emmanuel come 2023. Idea of coopting Attah into the Umo Eno project was to give it some credibility and acceptability since Obong Attah is hugely revered in the state.
Former Prelate of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Prelate Sunday Mbang and another influential Father of Faith, Uma Ukpai were there to render prayers for the success of the project.
Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the decision of the governor to settle for Umo Eno, some of the frontline governorship aspirants this evening had a meeting. The purpose of the meeting, according to our sources was to form a united front and strategize on resisting the attempt by the system to impose Umo Eno on the delegates during the forthcoming PDP guber primary.
