Alleged forgery: We sat together in state exco but he has turned an enemy, Umo Eno blasts Akon Okon

Embattled governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno has lambasted Mr. Akan Okon, a co-aspirant in the recently concluded guber primary in the state over allegations of forgery.

TheMail Newspaper understands that Mr. Akan Okon, on Tuesday filed a case in the Federal High Court, Uyo against Eno who was his colleague in the state executive Council. Until their resignations to pursue their governorship bids, Okon served as Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport while Eno served as Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources.

In the writ of summons which has PDP, Eno and INEC as defendants, Okon alleged that Eno presented to the PDP governorship screening committee which sat in Port Harcourt “forged West African School Certificates said to have been issued to him in 1981 and 1983 respectively. He also presented forged voter’s card as well as altered his date of birth”.

Responding to the allegations raised by Okon, Umo Eno said the onus is on Okon to prove his allegations, stating they are pure blackmails.

“He who has alleged has the burden of proof. I don’t know if it is WAEC (West African Examination Council) but don’t bother about that. It shows you the desperation of human beings. And the Bible has said that a man’s enemy would come from his household.

“These are the same people that we sat together in exco. And I can tell you, on a one-on-one, none of them can stand me. The only thing they can do is blackmail. Please, disregard the cheap blackmail. In 1981 when I went to school, Victory High School, Ikeja, Lagos, I was the Senior Prefect of the school. How can I forge the certificate of a school I attended?”, he said.

Okon is praying the court to disqualify Eno and declare him winner of the primary having finished second in the race. Okon scored 3 votes in the primary same as Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke but Luke had boycotted the primary, issuing a public statement to that effect.

TheMail learnt on good authority that there are several other court cases that may render Umo Eno’s victory short-lived. A court case instituted by loyalists of another aspirant, Obong Bassey Albert which challenges the legality of the adhoc delegates list used for the contentious primary is currently being entertained in Federal High Court, Abuja. TheMail understands that other aspirants have equally filed law suits in Abuja and Uyo against the process that threw up Eno.
