Covid-19 is not Over Yet- A’Ibom Commissioner for Health warns
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Augustine Umoh has cautioned residents that the coronavirus pandemic is not over yet despite zero record in the number of cases by the State in the last couple of weeks.
Prof. Umoh who stated this during the Incident Management Committee meeting recently, said that although Akwa Ibom State has not recorded any cases of Covid-19 lately, it was not wise to declare victory prematurely given the nature of the virus and the fact that other states in the country are still having cases.
He warned that flagrant disregard of safety guidelines by residents herald danger especially in the forthcoming festive period. He added that although the State Government had procured consumables for the season, individuals needed to take personal responsibility always.
The Commissioner urged residents to get vaccinated as quickly as possible explaining that the more people got vaccinated, the lower the risk of infection spread.
Prof. Umoh further said that the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, was very committed to protecting the lives and livelihood of its residents while commending the Case Management team and by extension, the State Incident Management Committee on COVID-19 for working tirelessly to ensure that the spread of the virus is curbed in the state.
