For some weeks now, the crazy Uyo football fans’ hopes of celebrating the home coming of solid rock goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama’s return to the posts for his youthful home team, Akwa United may not yield fruits as earlier believed as credible sources close to the world class goal tender reliably told “TheMail Sports” that although negotiations are on to get the keeper to return may not yield fruits as he is bent on striking a much more lucrative deal in the south African league.
Enyeama who has not been in active football since leaving French Ligue 1 side Lille in August 2018 has been engaged in personal training in preparation for his next move.
Enyeama, 37 has been considering moving to Africa in the event of a mouth-watering deal with sights on Orlando Pirates.
“Johannesburg is a good place to be,” he remarked. “If there’s an opportunity to play at Chiefs or Pirates, why not?
“Football is my life, football is my blood and if there is an opportunity to play and the terms and details are okay and my family and wife are okay with it, then we move.”
Back home, Akwa United, are 6th on the league rung and strongly needs the league diadem along with a continental ticket since the team has been over time having a bunch of unreliable goalkeepers.
Enyeama was a delight to watch in the colours of Akwa United between 1999 to 2001 before the search for greener pastures landed him at a top side Enyimba he won three consecutive NFPL titles and winning the CAF Champions League two times with Enyimba.
However, the strong but quiet financial muscle of Akwa united when it comes to acquiring ex-world cup stars may not be difficult for the side to part with at least a N2million naira wage bill for the genius if he so wishes to stick around with the ever crazy Uyo fans.
