Naira, Fuel Scarcity: Innocent Udoidiong Foundation Brings Succour to Etim Ekpo Residents
In an attempt to cushion the heightened suffering occasioned by the federal government’s currency swap policy and fuel scarcity, a non-governmental organisation, Innocent Udoidiong Foundation (IUF), has donated relief items worth several thousands of naira to vulnerable women in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
The foundation made the donation during the weekend to women drawn from five different communities in the local government area.
The relief items consisted of a 5kg bag of rice and garri given to each vulnerable woman. 100 women were privileged to benefit from the effort in each community thus numbering 500 beneficiaries across the local government area.
The NGO also donated Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, to commercial motorcyclists in the area.
Each of the motorcyclists numbering over 200 got N1000 worth of petrol.
At the presentation of the items at Ibio Nung Achat community in Etim Ekpo, the National Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr. Joseph Ekpo, said the Founder/CEO of the organisation, Mr. Innocent Udoidiong, a UK-based scholar was sympathetic to the plight of the less privileged persons following the economic hardship currently faced by Nigerians as a result of the government’s financial policy.
While noting that the Foundation was poised to touch the lives of the people in diverse ways, Ekpo urged the beneficiaries drawn from various communities in the local government area to pray for the donor of the items for enablement and God’s grace to continue to do more for the people.
On his part, the Foundation’s Media Officer, Mr. Tony Esin said the gesture was part of the NGO’s mission to tackle poverty and promote economic viability of local residents in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 1.
He called on other individuals, NGOs and the government to provide palliatives to vulnerable persons in the state to cushion the effect of the hardship brought on them due to the government’s fiscal policies.
Some of the beneficiaries in their responses commended the Founder of the NGO, Mr. Innocent Udoidiong for his empathy towards them while praying God to provide for him in return.
It could be recalled that the IUF in December last year donated dual desks, school band and school uniforms to four schools in the local government area.
Other schools in the state including Government Primary Aka 1, Uyo, Secondary Grammar School, Upenekang, Ibeno Local Government Area; Government Primary School, Ikot Akpan Okop, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area; St. Mary’s Practicing School, Ediene Abak, Abak Local Government Area previously received dual desks and other educational materials from the Foundation.
