The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ukana, Dr Uduak Ukekpe has marked two years in office.
He made this known during a press briefing held with newsmen at the Federal Polytechnic Ukana, Annex. The Rector appreciated the Media for all the publicity they have given to the school.
In his words, “I want to appreciate God and then the media for all your support and publicity. I also want to use this opportunity to correct the erroneous belief that Federal Polytechnic Ukana starts and ends here. No, this is just the annex. Work is ongoing at main Campus. By God’s willing before Mid 2021,we will move to the main Campus”.
He reiterated his commitment towards securing more courses for the polytechnic. “We are grateful that we are able to secure all necessary Civil Engineering equipment as listed, and in readiness for accreditation and academic activities”
The Rector said that the polytechnic has been running just two courses which are Computer science and Statistics. He however noted that before 2021, Engineering and other courses will be added to the list.
Ukekpe pointed out that courses expected to be given accreditation include; Civil Engineering, Electrical- Electronics, Architecture, Computer Engineering, Surveying, Business Administration, and Accounting Courses to make up to 14 courses by the year 2022.
During facility tour with newsmen to the main Campus, the buildings completed and those under construction were visited and assessed. The rector expressed gratitude to Federal Government and Tetiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for the financial support in putting up those structures in order to ensure that the Polytechnic is made to stand the test of time and also provide a conducive atmosphere for academic activities.
He pledged to leave the Polytechnic in a better state than he met, considering what has been achieved in his two years in office since December 15, 2018. The Rector promised that before the expiration of his tenure come November 2023, Federal Polytechnic Ukana will be an institution worthy to be reckoned with.
He also appreciated Ukana community in Essien Udim for their Magnanimity in freely donating the land in which the main campus in sited and noted that the school has a cordial relationship with the host community.
Management staff available at the briefing include, Dr Okon Ekanem – Registrar, Dr. Mercy Ebong – Librarian, Engr Imo Acting Head of Works, Deacon Manasseh Umoette – Public Relations Officer who were there to welcome and entertain questions from a cross-section of the Media.
