Umo Eno: Akwa Ibom does not need the least qualified aspirant to be governor – Sir Emem Akpabio

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Sir Emem Akpabio has said that Akwa Ibom State does not need the least qualified person to become governor in 2023.

Sir Emem Akpabio who is a relative to former Governor of Akwa Ibom, Senator Godswill Akpabio said this on Friday when a governorship aspirant, Senator Bassey Albert paid a consultative visit to some PDP stakeholders in Ikono LGA.

Sir Emem’s reaction is coming on the heels of statements by Governor Udom Emmanuel’s preferred aspirant, Umo Eno on his qualification to be governor.

TheMail Newspaper reports that Pastor Umo Eno has said during many consultative visits that though he is the least qualified of all the governorship aspirants, he is only favoured by God.

“Akwa Ibom does not need the least qualified person to be the governor. Akwa Ibom is 5-star state, we need a 5-star governor.

“I am proud to give you a 5-star governor. OBA will be a 5-star governor. His antecedents speak for him. He has been a 5-star banker, a 5-star commissioner, a 5-star senator, a 5-star gentleman. I challenge any of the 329 wards in Akwa Ibom to come and say they didn’t feel the impact of Bassey Albert Akpan when he was the Chairman of Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee”, said Sir Emem Akpabio who was an influential figure in the last administration.

Sir Akpabio also said ownership of “a small hotel” does not translate into an “international email”, which the governor once told Akwa Ibom people that his successor must possess.

Pastor Umo Eno owns the Royalty Hotels in Eket and was Chairman, Akwa Ibom Hotels and Tourism Board under the administration of former Governor Victor Attah.
